Overview:
Located in a restricted military and aerospace facility in South Australia, the Australian Department of Defence, Science, and Technology Group (DSTG) required temporary yet comfortable workspaces and a reliable energy source in a remote area.
Key challenge:
Due to Woomera being a high temperature ambient environment, it can be a difficult place to work in especially during dry, Australian summers. The remoteness of the place also presented challenges in keeping critical equipment operational.
Solarator® solution:
The Black Stump Technologies custom office solution and clean energy generator was specifically engineered to provide autonomous power to suit the requirements of the remote telescope’s electronics package and provide an on-site working environment for staff. As the unit is expected to be deployed in the remote South Australian desert, special attention was paid to keeping the electronics and staff work space cool, as well as a remote internet connection, to allow operation and monitoring from Adelaide.
The Australian designed and manufactured equipment is robust to ensure continuous operation and is supplied as a packaged system for easy turn-key installation.
Overall, the project was estimated to save the client more than $62,000 in fuel cost annually and avoid up to 58,000 carbon emissions annually.
Project wins:
- Spacious, fully airconditioned workspace for four people
- Clean and reliable energy source
- Works 24/7, all year round
