Solarator Compact 150+ kVa diesel generator replacement at Pilbara Coast

Case Studies

Case study overview:

McConnell Dowell is delivering the largest capital works contract for BCI Minerals’ solar evaporation operations called Mardie Salt & Potash Project. It is set to be a large-scale, multi-generational and sustainable salt production facility in the region.

Key challenge:

Difficult site conditions include high ambient heat, fine red dust, and cyclone potential. The site also has limited space for equipment.

Solarator® solution:

Our solar-powered commercial generator Solarator® Compact 150+ kVa replaced a 150 kVa diesel unit in McConnell Dowell’s high dust 24/7 usage compound. By using our robust and reliable diesel alternative, McConnell Dowell is saving as much as $136,000 in fuel costs annually and avoiding 205,000 kgs of carbon emissions annually. At current configuration, the payback period is expected to be at 1.9 years only.

Project wins:

  • Quiet and reliable operations
  • Comfortable workers camp
  • Compact, robust and vandal-proof design ideal for extreme conditions
  • Performance data used for ESG compliance and strategic business decisions
