Solarators commissioned for a government agri project in remote Vanuatu

Case Studies

Overview:

This project was a pilot demonstration made in partnership with Vanuatu Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) and the International Institute for Energy Conservation (IIEC). It aims to showcase the use of efficient and clean cooling technology at a reasonable cost for local farmers.

Key challenge:

Traditional cold storage rooms used for food preservation and cold chain logistics operate using expensive and hard-to-source diesel

Solarator® solution:

Using our commercial-grade, high performance, solar-powered chiller, the project is estimated to save more than $59,000 in fuel costs and around 58,000 kgs in carbon emissions per annum. With its robust design, the Solarator® can withstand extreme weather conditions 24/7, 365 days a year. It is also ideal for remote communities since it does not rely on spotty power grids usually found in secluded areas.

Project wins:

  • Opportunity to sell to more markets using cost-effective cold storage
  • Local community has more access to fresh produce
  • Reduction of food waste and operating cost
